6 Best Supplements to Help with Weight Loss

Most supplements are flat-out a waste of your time and money. But there are 6 we highly recommend to help you lose weight without sacrificing your hard-earned muscle. They're not required. It’s estimated that 95% of people in the U.S are deficient in omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3s have a lot of benefits such as improving insulin sensitivity (which can help with muscle growth), increasing mood and circulation, and controlling and managing inflammation. Since your body can’t naturally create omega-3s, you must get them from food and supplement sources.

Taking fish oil, which contains the powerful omega-3s docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), is an easy way to get your high-quality fats without needing to eat a few pounds of salmon.

Take two softgels up to twice daily, preferably with a meal. To keep it fresh, we recommend keeping it in the refrigerator or even the freezer (to eliminate the fish burps). When shopping for fish oil, you want to make sure you choose the highest quality. Make sure that each serving contains at least 1000 mg. total of EPA and DHA. If not, put it back on the shelf.


Since most of us are deficient in one or more vitamins or minerals — approximately 68% of the general population is deficient in calcium, 90% in chromium, 75% in magnesium, and 80% in vitamin B6 — a high-quality multivitamin is a great way to “fill in the gaps” and get the extra vitamins we may not get from food alone.

Vitamins, minerals, and nutrients play a role in normalizing bodily functions and cannot be made by the body alone (except for vitamin D, which we can get from the sun). That’s why we always recommend taking a daily multivitamin.

Follow the instructions on the back of whichever multivitamin you choose. Some you’ll take once per day; others you’ll take multiple times per day, like the MNS system.

While the MNS system is a little more complex than the typical daily vitamin, you take the pills at the times they are best utilized by the body. This particular multinutrient system focuses on energy, wellness and appetite control, as well. We always feel like superman when we take it.


If it’s a once-per-day capsule, take it in the morning with breakfast. If it’s supposed to be taken multiple times per day, pair it with breakfast and a late afternoon snack. (While these are the recommended times, they’re not etched in stone. In other words, just take your multivitamin whenever you remember to take your multivitamin.)


Proteins are the building blocks of muscle and aid in muscle repair, increased energy, and better recovery. Unfortunately, only 75% of us get enough protein every day. It's something we see our clients struggle with ALL THE TIME.

If you’re lactose intolerant or vegan/vegetarian, you can also supplement with rice, hemp, pumpkin seed, or pea protein. We don’t recommend soy.

Take one capsule with water on an empty stomach, 30 minutes or more before a meal, one to two times per day. For greater effect, increase serving size to two capsules.

Insufficient melatonin will slowly destroy your body and brain, despite the very best nutrition and exercise plan. Let that sink in for a moment. If your melatonin levels are low, it doesn't matter how much you eat right and exercise- your body can't respond.

Melatonin pills are a waste of money: 90% of the melatonin will be destroyed by your digestive acids.Therefore, shop for liquid melatonin, which you hold in your mouth for 30-60 seconds to allow your gums to absorb it.
